Ceredigion Coast

Sunday and Monday 2nd & 3rd Aug 26.

We've had a few trips out prior to these two but not written them up.

Sunday was spent on a trip out from New Quay on the Ceredigion Coast to look for Dolphin and Porpoise, and just off the peninsula of Ynys-  Lochtyn we were lucky enough to get amongst a small pod of Dolphins, which is always something special. After that, we paddled on to Llangrannog and joined the holiday crowds for lunch.

On our return journey the tide turned and the sea state became increasingly confused, and the paddling became increasingly like riding a mustang in a rodeo. We were managing, but paddling was far less enjoyable and frankly hard work.

Discretion being the better part of valour.......we decided to cut our losses, preferring to park the kayaks at Cwmtydu and enjoy the more pleasant walk back to the van, and an ice cream on the harbour wall where another dolphin was spotted close in shore in the bay. We picked the canoes up later at the end of a long day out.

Next day was one of my favourite paddles in Pembrokeshire. Starting from the picturesque Old Fishguard harbour and heading west towards Dinas Head. This takes you past lovely small bays and under rocky arches and alongside needle rock stack. A small, secluded, sunny beach was picked for our lunch spot before the return journey. No Dolphins this time, just wonderful scenery and calm seas and a well earned pint in an award winning pub in Fishguard Town.
