Set in the beautiful grounds of Priory Country Park on the outskirts of Bedford, the annual Interclubs Slalom Competition is an opportunity for beginners and veterans alike to compete on the water with Olympians, team GB athletes and future top slalom paddlers.
Whilst the aim is to be the top team, it's also the aim to challenge oneself and have fun. There were 11 teams competing this year including our amalgamated team of Stroud, Cheltenham and Sharks. Sharks are a London based club with whom we have an association through Daniel Greening.
The slalom course is set up in the overflow channel, a flood defense, of the Greater Ouse river. A challenging course, with an exciting drop to finish. See photos. Great fun was had by all, competing individually and in team groups, judging, socialising and at the end of all the racing everyone takes part in dismantling the course.
Once again we brought home the shield for the highest ranking combined team. We were in fact the only combined team but this I think demonstrates a sporting spirit of determination to take part by all 3 clubs.
